Fruit of the Spirit - Goodness and Kindness

We have been working our way through the fruit (Is the plural of fruit, fruit? I think so, like the word luggage, right?) of the spirit? There are 9 fruits (there goes that theory) found in Galatians 5:22,23. Today, let's discuss the fifth of those fruits listed, most simply translated as "goodness", but also known as "kindness".

It is the same Greek word when Paul writes in Romans (3:12) that there is none who does "good", no not one. (Which quotes Psalm 14:1) Again, the fruits of the spirit are characteristics that originally belong to God. When people display a characteristic of God it is called a fruit of the spirit.

This "goodness" aka "kindness" is also an attribute of love in 1 Corinthians 13 (see verse 4). A deeper understanding is "morally excellent". Another term in the Lexicon is "useful kindness". This is kindness that meets a need and is the opposite of human cruelty. May we all reflect the character of Yeshua in every situation.

Have a great day. R. Michael.
