Five pairs

Question of the day: Paul asks a series of 5 questions at the end of 2 Corinthians 6 that together form the question of today. What are they and what's the point?

Answer: 2 Corinthians 6:14-16 "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership is there between righteousness and lawlessness? Or what fellowship does light have with darkness? What harmony does Messiah have with Belial? Or what part does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement does God's Temple have with idols?"

In these 5 questions are 5 matched pairs (we've been doing this a lot lately).

Righteousness and Lawlessness - Light and Darkness - Messiah and Belial - Believer and Unbeliever - God's Temple and Idols.

On God's (good) side we have righteousness, light, Messiah, believer, God's Temple. On the side of Satan (evil) we have lawlessness, darkness, Belial (a name for Satan), unbeliever and idols.

There is a simple point here. You wouldn't think it necessary for me to labor at this exhaustively. It's not even complicated. Choose God's side.

Ephesians 5:8, 11 "For once you were darkness, but now in union with the Lord you are light. Walk as children of light ... Take no part in the fruitless deeds

of darkness, but rather expose them ..."

The section starts with the statement about not being "unequally yoked". What follows are examples in the matched pairs. That means in marriage (there are other places

where divorce for that reason is forbidden, so don't go getting any wild ideas) and in business and in any other way the family of God might partner with those who are not of the household of faith.

Blessings, Rabbi Michael
