Taking a back seat

Luke 14:7-14 teaches about taking the place which is less visible to others; the back seat rather than the front. This then positions us for being brought forward by others and more importantly by God while not promoting ourselves.

We can also look at this another way; that is how we perceive and receive people who are famous or important, or even those who represent powerful and influential people

or organizations. We could call them the VIP's. How do we respond to people like this? Do we tend to bring them before others in an excited and honoring manner that is above and beyond what should be expected? Are we somewhat swept away by their potential to help or invest in a project or person? It can be difficult not to fall into this

trap because we live in a world that is geared for doing something and receiving something in return.

Yeshua served the least important people and His name went out from there. He went to serve and not to control. His character is to go to do or help, to invest in and then to leave. If we can adopt this character we will find ourselves operating in an attitude of: It's not about me, it's about Him.

If I take this into the context of serving within the congregation; we must be careful how we stand not only before the people who come to serve but those which have been served. Recognition and need are tools which can draw us to a place of pride. We must remain aware of who we are working with; being careful not to take advantage of the situation as well as not to be taken advantage of. This really works both ways.

Lastly when it comes to ministry, whether we have been invited or we have invited someone, we must watch our hearts;remembering that: whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”" We are truly blessed that God has allowed us to be used as a bridge between lovers of Israel and the people of Israel here in the land.
