He has overcome the world

I friend shared this verse with me earlier that I am compelled to write about today. Yeshua is speaking to His disciples (if you're His disciple, then He is speaking this to you today) right after He tells them they will abandon Him. Makes me cry to hear those words. Which of us has not abandoned Yeshua at some time?

John 16:33 "These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have shalom. In the world you will have trouble, but take heart! I have overcome the world!"

Even so, (though we abandon Him from time to time) Yeshua speaks to us so that we can have shalom. But that's not my point. Yeshua tells us, "In the world you will have trouble." He says that as if it is for certain. It is assured by God that we will have trouble.

Thank God we also have blessed assurance. "Blessed assurance" is not "fire insurance." So many people stop with the thought that they have escaped from hell through faith in the Son of God. That's fire insurance, but blessed assurance is so much more.

Blessed assurance is a relationship with the living God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob through His Son, Yeshua HaMashiach. That relationship starts the moment you accept Him as Lord of your life and lasts for all eternity.

Oh, and one more thing (as if that's not enough right there). The verse ends with a message for us all (yes, that includes you). "But take heart. I (Yeshua is speaking) have overcome the world!" No matter what we're facing, Yeshua has already overcome it.

What has Yeshua overcome? Well, let me tell you. When He says "the world," it's euphemistic for EVERYTHING in the universe. It is sickness, illness, some+physically malfunction called disease? Yeshua has overcome it.

Is there some emotional trial? A relationship gone wrong? A mood like depression getting you down? Yeshua has overcome it.

A spiritual issue? Ephesians 6:12 "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the worldly forces of this darkness, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places."
