The Upper Room Discourse 12

John 14:10 Don't you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me? The words I say to you, I do not speak on My own; but the Father dwelling in Me+does His works.

Yes, let's break this down (my way of saying, let's dig deeper). The first part of the verse sounds so similar to Yeshua's John 17 prayer, where you and I are included in the "oneness" of Father and Son.

John 17:22-23 The glory that You have given to Me I have given to them, that they may be one just as We are one - I in them and You in Me - that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me and loved them as You loved Me.

This is a spiritual image of the Lulav and the Etrog we wave before the Lord on Sukkot. The Lulav is made of three species representing Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The Etrog is added because it is in the shape of and about the same size as the heart of a man. They are held together to show the reality of Yeshua's John 17 prayer for unity, and then waved before God as part of our Sukkot celebration.

We started today with John 14:10, but later in that chapter, we find Yeshua is building on this. John 14:19-20 In a little while, the world will no longer behold Me, but you will behold Me. Because I live, you also will live! In that day, you will know that I am in My Father, you are in Me, and I am in you.

There are 3 parts to verse 20.
1. I am in My Father.
2. You are in Me.
3. I am in you.

Notice how Yeshua is in all 3 parts. It is He Who binds us together with God. 1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God and there is one Mediator between God and men - a human, Messiah Yeshua.

Finally today I want to focus on the last part of the verse. There is a connection made there between speaking and doing which should capture our attention. Yeshua speaks the words of the Father Who does the works. John 14:10b I do not speak on My own; but the Father dwelling in Me does His works.

How wonderful it is that we speak God's words in faith, and He answers in power. 1 John 5:14 Now this is the confidence we have before Him - that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us - whatever we ask - we know that we have the requests we have asked from Him.

This is our heritage when Yeshua is in us. Go ahead, invite Him in. If you already have, then give thanks for His goodness. Psalm 107:1 Praise Adonai, for He is good, for His lovingkindness endures forever.
