The Upper Room Discourse 67

John 17:9-10 I ask on their behalf. Not on behalf of the world do I ask, but on behalf of those You have given Me, for they are Yours. All Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine; and I have been glorified in them.

According to this verse, Yeshua is "asking" on our behalf. But, as I search these Scriptures, I don't see a question. However; there is an "ask." It's not in the form of a question per se. Prayer is frequently described as "inquiring of the Lord." In John 17:3, Yeshua prays this phrase, "that they may know You." And there it is, Yeshua is asking the Father on our behalf.

Then in verse 10, Yeshua acknowledges His shared destiny with the Father. John 17:10a All Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine. Then He makes this statement which I want to further illuminate. John 17:10b and I have been glorified in them. What does that mean? How is Yeshua glorified in us?

I only want to share two thoughts on this. Yeshua is glorified in us when we obey Him. 1 Peter 2:12 Keep your conduct honorable among the Gentiles. Then while they speak against you as evildoers, they may - from noticing your good deeds - glorify God in the day of visitation.

What is perishing in this world is temporal and corrupt. That which is eternal (will never die) is glorious. 1 Corinthians 15:42-44 So also is the resurrection of the dead: Sown in corruption, raised in incorruption! Sown in dishonor, raised in glory! Sown in weakness, raised in power! Sown a natural body, raised a spiritual body! If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.

We glorify Yeshua both as we run the race and also when we finish the race and receive our reward. 1 Corinthians 9:24-25 Don't you know that in a stadium the runners all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win! Every competitor exercises self-control in all respects. They do it to receive a perishable crown, but we do it to receive an imperishable one.

Just two more scriptural evidence quotes ... Hebrews 12:1b let us also get rid of every weight and entangling sin. Let us run with endurance the race set before us. And finally, Paul's words to Timothy ... 2 Timothy 4:7-8 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith. In the future there is reserved for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day - and not to me only, but also to everyone who has longed for His appearing.

Don't miss this ... obey God, run the race and finish the race and receive your glorious crown.
