A History of Tikkun: The Five-fold Ministry

Then we saw that there are prophets, people that hear the word of God for direction that have to be prayed about and confirmed, evangelists that are effective not only in winning people to the Lord but equipping people to do the work of ministry. And then there are teachers who teach the whole word of God foundationally and pastors who can shepherd the flock with gifting.

When we saw that, we saw that many leaders who are trying to lead congregations are miscast. For example, you have a great teacher but he has no pastoral gifts and he can't cause the flock to come together in unity and love. Or, if you have a person who is an evangelist, but not a pastor, many people come in the front door but just as many go out the back door. So many evangelists are trying to be pastors, but they shouldn't be pastors, they should be equipping evangelists to bless the whole body.

When we saw there are different kinds of leaders, we said, "Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could create a network where we equipped all of the congregations like different kinds of leaders to grow strong as it says in Ephesians 4 - until we come to unity of the faith?"
