In the Sinai Desert

"ADONAI spoke to Moshe in the Sinai Desert, in the tent of meeting, on the first day of the second month of the second year after they had left the land of Egypt. He said ..." (Numbers 1:1, CJB)

They were in the Sinai Desert. We all have times of struggling, when life is hard or we can't find any direction, or G-d doesn't seem close; many people refer to these times as "being in the desert". And what does the Bible tell us? That Moshe was in the tent of meeting. He was still being faithful to go to the tent to meet with G-d - he was turning to see what G-d would say or do. Do we still read our Bibles, pray, continue to study the Word?

The time was "the second month of the second year", which tells us that things don't always happen all at once - sometimes we have to wait. Waiting can be hard, but it's a part of life. And life carries on while we wait, so we mustn't put our lives on hold just to wait: we have to live as well!

The verse ends "He said". What G-d said is in the next verse, but He DID say something. That's important! Can you hear what He says? And what about those times when we listen and wait and pray for something, but G-d remains silent? He still hears, even when He appears silent He still hears - so take heart. As Yeshua reminds us later on:

"I myself know that you always hear me, but I say this because of the crowd standing around, so that they may believe that you have sent me." (John 11:42, CJB)
