This Sometimes Happens when You do Something Good

If you have joined with us on Saturday morning, you will know that we have been studying Deuteronomy in terms of identity. That is, we are filtering our view of the scripture and its spiritual meaning to us in terms of looking at the Israelite's entering of the land as our entering our identity in Yeshua. This week's reading is a continuation of that.

Spritually speaking, as disciples of Yeshua, whether we do something that is good or bad, whatever we do out-of-line with our identity in Jesus, means we are being disobedient. Whenever we do something in line with our identity in Yeshua, we are reaffirming our "adoption as sons/daughters" (Galatians 4:5-6) because we have been given the "Spirit of the Son."

But, you may say, what about what is says in 1 Samuel, where it says "obedience is better than sacrifice"? I might respond that sacrifice has always been part of obedience. But, a sacrifice out of place is merely the killing of an animal, or the wasting of a resource.

The reading for this week is connected to the possession of the land Israel was about to enter. It has a very real and practical element or application that is meant for the Israel entering into it. It is also meant as a type of foreshadowing of when we enter into our identity in Yeshua.

The more we act in line with the Spirit of the Son that we have been given, the more sure and built up our identity in Yeshua is and the more we will act in accordance with it.

Behold the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the root of David, has conquered ... Yeshua is King over all - He is coming in Power and in Glory - "He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords."
