The Upper Room Discourse 17

John 14:20 In that day, you will know that I am in My Father, you are in Me, and I am in you.

Woah, wait just a minute. This is getting better and better. Yeshua just said, "In that day, you will know ...." This raises some questions. What day is that, and what will we know in it? "In that day" is building upon the previous verse which speaks of a day when the world will not see Him, but we (His disciples) will see Him.

(Continue waiting!) Why, ... that's today! A scriptural day is frequently not just a 24 hour day, but an epoch, a period of time. In this case, it is the time period between His burial (after the crucifixion) and His return to the earth (which has not happened yet). We have been living in that "day" for the last 2,000 years, and it will continue until His return (see Revelation 1:7).

So then, since that day is now, what do we know? (Paraphrasing) Yeshua is in His Father, we are in Him, and He is in us. It is He alone Who unites us with God the Father. The Son is in us and we are in Him. Yeshua is the mediator between God and man.

1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God and there is one Mediator between God and men - a human, Messiah Yeshua

One last question today ... What does it mean to be in Him and to have Him in us? Colossians 1:26-27 the mystery (Yeshua's full message) that was hidden for ages and generations, but now has been revealed to His kedoshim (holy ones, you and me). God chose to make known to them this glorious mystery regarding the Gentiles - which is Messiah in you, the hope of glory!

Is that for gentiles only? Paul had something to say to the Ephesians about that. Ephesians 2:16-18 and to reconcile both to God in one body through the cross - by which He put the hostility to death. And He came and proclaimed shalom to you who were far away and shalom to those who were near - for through Him we both have access to the Father by the same Ruach.

When He is in us and we are in Him, our eye is single, and our whole body is full of light. Matthew 6:22 The eye is the lamp of the body. Therefore if your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. And finally for today, Ephesians 5:11,14 Take no part in the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them ... for everything made visible is light. This is why it says, "Wake up, O sleeper! Rise from the dead, and Messiah will shine on you."

May Messiah shine on you, from within.
