The Upper Room Discourse 63

John 17:4 I glorified You on earth by finishing the work that You have given Me to do.

So much in this verse. Yeshua is continuing in prayer, and begins speaking prophetically. He speaks of finished work, even though it would be another 15 hours before Yeshua would speak from the cross ... John 19:30 When Yeshua tasted the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!" And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.

Rabbi Trail: Speaking prophetically is not fortune telling. It is speaking what is not as if it is. Not recklessly, but by the leading of the Holy Spirit. This is what God did when He prophesied over Father Abraham that he would have son in his old age. Romans 4:17b God who gives life to the dead and calls into existence that which does not exist. End RT.

That finished work is nothing less than the salvation of the world. It is that very finished work we celebrate at the communion table. 2 Corinthians 1:5 For just as the sufferings of Messiah overflow into us, so also through Messiah our encouragement overflows.

Furthermore; we glorify God by obeying Him. He is glorified in heaven because He is always obeyed in heaven, by everyone there. The last one to disobey God in heaven (Satan), was removed from heaven and sent into the earth. The greatest commandment commands our obedience to God, with all of our heart, soul and strength.

That "work" Yeshua completed was to teach the disciples (and by extension, we are all His disciples) how to respond to adversity in the kingdom of God. We pray, we remain faithful, and we expect God to move through us. Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Messiah who strengthens me. We are circling around to where we ended the previous chapter. John 16:33 These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have shalom. In the world you will have trouble, but take heart! I have overcome the world!

And in Him, we also will be overcomers. Some might call it more than a conquerer. Romans 8:37 But in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. So we rest in His finished work.
