Psalm 121 - God never rests from watching over us
|
Psalm 121:3-4 "He will not allow (give) your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep." NKJV This is one of the easiest devotionals I've ever written. The last 2 Hebrew words of these two verses are the words "Shomair Yisrael." Sound familiar? This is, in fact, the place from which the name for the congregation I lead comes. The syntax of the Hebrew puts these 2 words last. They mean the One who never slumbers nor sleeps is the "Guardian of Israel". Another word for Guardian is Watchman. God is watching over His people. That should not be a headline. God has been watching over us since before we were born. He will never rest from this position of responsibility. This is the fullness of the term in Hebrew "El Al" meaning "God (is) on". Yes, God is on the job, so we can rest. He is the only one to say with perfect faith, "I've got this."
