Written Prayer

Biblical worship has a place for dance and exuberance, but it also has a place for the softer joys of quiet reflection and written prayer.

God has revealed Himself in a written Word, in classical communication. Closeness to God requires recapturing a reading and meditative ability that our culture has lost. Our mass media culture produces shallow people who cannot think for themselves, who are easily manipulated. The culture is opposed to the values of the Word God.

God Himself gave the first prayer book, the Book of Psalms. Why are written prayers to be recited, memorized, chanted, and sung? So that we might learn to pray more deeply, with a greater content to praise and intercession! The Psalms teach us from one of the greatest praying giants in history, King David. They also teach us from the best of Israel's prayer warriors. Evidently, God considers written prayer of value.
