Psalm 132 - God has called us into His light

Psalm 132:17-18 "There I will make the horn of David grow; I will prepare a lamp for My Anointed. His enemies I will clothe with shame, but upon Himself His crown shall flourish" NKJV

Wow! We could write a book on these two verses alone. They begin, "There a horn of David will sprout." Smith's Bible Dictionary addresses the figurative use of the word "horn" in the Bible.

The word "horn" is often used metaphorically to signify strength and honor, because horns are the chief weapons and ornaments of the animals which possess them; hence they are also used as a type of victory... In Daniel 8, the horns of the ram signify kingdoms. (And can you have a kingdom without a king?)

Here, in verse 17, the horn of David begins to sprout. This is miraculous since a horn does not have seed of itself. This is analogous to Aarons rod budding (or sprouting since cut sticks do not have life in themselves). What is this about? The rest of the verse tells us.

God says, "I have set in order light for my Messiah." Do we really need to write extensively about light? Maybe, if we were writing a book. For now suffice it to quote Matthew 5:14. Matthew 5:14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden." NKJV

In verse 18, the last verse of Psalm 132, we start with "His enemies". Whose enemies? Who is mentioned last in verse 17? Yes, Mashiach. What will happen to Yeshua's enemies? They will be clothed with shame. Makes me think of Colossians 2:15 "Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it." NKJV Yes, He put His enemies to shame!

Then, the second part of verse 18 ... And on Him He will sprout forth His separation or coronation. This is so completely Messianic. The idea of "sprout forth" is to make life come from nothing. Only God can do this. The final word, Nizro, meaning his coronation is actually a form of the word used for Nazarite. What is a Nazarite? One who is consecrated (called out or separated for a holy purpose) takes a Nazarite vow.

We thank You, Lord ... (I like The Message In Contemporary English translation) 1 Peter 2:9-10 "But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God's instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted. Amen."
