Power

power - used in both the Hebrew and Greek texts, this is a term that needs careful treatment. Clearly, G-d is the one who has all the power in the universe; it is at His disposal and control. This is a very different view than that of the world, where people jockey and manoeuvre to gain power and influence, building little empires at work or in social or (worse) domestic situations.

We, as believers in Messiah Yeshua have access to the ultimate power, but choose - modelling Yeshua Himself - not to exercise it. When Yeshua was slighted by a Samaritan village, the disciples asked if they could call down fire from heaven to consume it, but Yeshua rebuked them because they did not understand what they were saying.

It is from a position of strength, therefore, that we minister to those around us, knowing that we serve the King of Kings, but humbling ourselves before men, turning away anger and wrath as Yeshua Himself did, enduring shame and giving of ourselves. As we do this, G-d's power is displayed through us and hearts are touched and turned towards Him and grace becomes available to those He calls into His kingdom.
