What is your life?

Question of the Day: Right in the middle of the verse, we find the question of the day ... Jacob 4:14b "What is your life?"

Answer: We could answer the question in many ways. The Bible provides an answer that is most likely the correct one, so let's skip our answers and go directly to the one God provides in His Word.

The following verses in Jacob 4 teach us to avoid the arrogance of serving our own desires and make it our desire to obey God. We are called to make Him the driving force in our lives. What is your life? Whatever God says it is. He defines us, not we, ourselves.

What's my point here? I’m glad you asked. When we become a follower of Yeshua, He becomes our Lord and Savior. As our Lord, we must put Him in the preeminent position (driver's seat) of leading our lives. My general sense is that we don't put nearly enough effort into understanding what is the will of God for our lives and then submitting to it.

We are taught as youngsters to be master consumers. The advertising industry (now .2 trillion) specializes in it. McDonald's had two great slogans, "You deserve a break today" and "We do it all for you." Hertz even had one, "Let Hertz put you in the driver’s sea ..." Yeshua simply said, "Follow me."

Let's each of us make a fresh effort to learn what the will of God is concerning our lives. We are all uniquely different, AND we are all remarkably the same. We are the same in that we should all tell the truth and we should all be thankful, etc. There are talents that make us unique.

Today's two chapters, Jacob 3 and 4 give us fairly good instruction. Watch your tongue, avoid arrogance, and do what is right (let God define that). Please take this occasion to pray into it and to hear that word behind us saying, "This is the way, walk in it." (Isaiah 30:21)
