Righteousness Through Faith

Question of the day: Genesis 15:6 "Then he (Abraham) believed in Adonai and He (God) reckoned it to him (Abraham) as righteousness." What is "righteousness through faith?"

Answer: Well, it's not "righteousness through works!" "Clear enough," you say, "But it just doesn't make sense that we would get something for nothing." Who says faith is nothing? Hebrews 11 is known as "the faith chapter." It starts with this verse ... Hebrews 11:1 "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of

realities not seen."

So then faith is substantial (or is made up of something - substance). Faith is made of what we hope for. When Genesis 5:6 says "reckoned", other translations say "accounted." But the Hebrew uses the root KHaSHaV meaning think. When God thought about Abraham’s faith, that thought became Abraham's righteousness.

God is so powerful, even His thoughts have power. I love Misty Edwards' song, "Always On His Mind" (Click on the song title to hear it). Don't miss the ending, "People get ready, Jesus is coming." It is the faith of God's children in His Son, Yeshua that get's God's attention, so that He pours out grace.

And here is how we receive it from God. Tell Him, "I receive Your grace through faith in Messiah Yeshua, Your only begotten Son who gave His life for me when I was a sinner. I repent of my sins and turn to You, the savior of my soul in Whom I trust. In Yeshua's name. Amen."
