Goodness of God

Question of the day: Yeshua asks the question of the day ... Mark 10:18a "Why do you call Me good?"

Answer: Then Yeshua answers his own question in the same verse. Mark 10:18b "Yeshua said to him. "No one is good except Oneā€”that is God."" Why did Yeshua speak in this way? Did He not know He is the Son of God and in Him lies the fullness of the Godhead bodily? (Colossians 2:9)

Yeshua was making a point that we all need to know and remember. He (and by extension, Him in us) is a reflection of the goodness of God the Father.

Rabbi Trail: Some expositors want to reverse Yeshua's intended meaning. They propose that Yeshua is saying (in effect), "I'm not good, I'm great!" I don't see that in the text at all. End RT.

John 5:19 "Therefore Yeshua answered them, "Amen, amen I tell you, the Son cannot do anything by Himself. He can do only what He sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son does likewise.""

Like every message from Yeshua, we must internalize the full meaning. As we minister, there should be a voice in our ears whispering, "Not me, Lord, but Thy will be done." We would do well to keep the focus off ourselves and where it belongs, on God, who alone is good.
