Eli and responsibility

Question of the day: Who spoke to Eli?

Answer: Let's look at 1 Samuel 2:27 in the Hebrew. Most translations say "a man of God," but the Hebrew simply says Ish-Elohim, which translates to "man-God."

As time is marching on (as we read chronologically through the Scriptures), we find many appearances of an angel-God-man. These are detailed in Asher Intrater's book "Who Ate Lunch With Abraham," which is also the title of the first chapter. It is so clear that this is Yeshua who is speaking to Eli.

Note to Eli: God takes assigned responsibilities seriously. It's not going to end well that you let your sons abuse their office as priests. End Note.

Eli receives a prophesy that his sons will both die young on the same day. And that God will raise up another priest (Samuel, although he is not named here.) who will perform in his office responsibly.

As with everything, what is the lesson for us? Do I have to spell it out? We must take our responsibilities seriously. God will require it of us.

Romans 14:12 "So then each one of us shall give account of himself to God."
