Security and faith

"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." Isaiah 41:10

Where is our security during these times of testing? This scripture and many more like it in God's Word should bring us peace, confidence and assurance of God's protection. It is natural that to some extent we would question what help is available in the current economic situation; looking to government grants and subsidy, ability to freeze mortgage payments and on and on. Depending on the impact of the pandemic on our ability to go to work, open businesses, etc., every government decision is major in our daily lives.

Has this current situation and the constant barrage of news reports and medical discussions, sensitized us? How much faith are we putting in the pending vaccine and it's availability to protect us?

Then there is war and sounds of war, including the sale of weapons to other countries; deals and sanctions against enemies and the strength of their weapons arsenal. Are we putting a little too much confidence in the ability of our military to protect us?

These are just a few examples of situations which are part of our every day lives. We need God's wisdom in our lives in order to make choices and decisions, but where does my trust in God begin and end? When I approach that thin line, are there areas of my life which are closer to trusting other people, places and things than God? We would do well to remember that with all the precautions for our safety that we may put into place, something could not work as it should and then we will find ourselves calling out to God who never fails.

This is the time for reflection and preparation; to weigh where we stand with God. This is when we can ask ourselves how to turn this time to our advantage in evaluating ourselves in the natural and the spiritual. This time of testing can be used to strengthen and in some cases restore our ability to enter into a spirit of intercession.

I could not find any place in the Word where, in a time of trouble, there was any solution other than trusting in God. Can we actually live a life where we go to sleep, wake up and go through our day confident that God is in control, even when we don't understand?

May we find ourselves at the other side of this current pandemic to be stronger in faith than when we started.

"Therefore, do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised." Hebrews 10:35-36
