The Upper Room Discourse 45

John 16:5-7 But now I am going to the One who sent Me, and not one of you is asking Me, 'Where are you going?' Because I have spoken these things to you, grief has filled your heart. But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away! For if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.

Okay, let's ask Yeshua, "Where are You going?" He doesn't tell us directly here (in John 16), but earlier in the Upper Room Discourse we get this information. In John chapter 14, early in the chapter, Yeshua has a discourse with (Doubting) Thomas. Yeshua assures him that He is going to prepare a place for us, and that we know how to get there.

John 14:3-6 "If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and take you to Myself, so that where I am you may also be. And you know the way to where I am going." Thomas said to Him, "Master, we don't know where You are going. How can we know the way?" Yeshua said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life! No one comes to the Father except through Me.

That "place" has an address in heaven, the house of God. Our destiny is to dwell eternally as heirs in the presence of God. How do we get there? Through faith in Yeshua. Remember His words, "I am the way." There is an event planned for that address in heaven called, "The Marriage Supper of the Lamb."

Revelation 19:7-9 "Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and His bride has made herself ready, She was given fine linen to wear, bright and clean! For the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the kedoshim." Then the angel tells me, "Write: How fortunate are those who have been invited to the wedding banquet of the Lamb!" He also tells me, "These are the true words of God."

That "place" of preparation includes a place setting at the banquet table of the marriage supper of the Lamb. This is part of why Yeshua said it is advantageous to us for Him to go away. There is more, but for now, dwell on this and I'll write more next time.

Rabbi Trail: The Song of Solomon (Song of Songs) is full of metaphorical poetry. In it, Solomon wrote of Himself in his role in the lineage of Yeshua. He actually mentions the Marriage Supper of Yeshua as a special day. He refers to it as a "day of His heart's joy." Much like when John the Baptist leapt in his mother's womb, this "day" is the crowning day of the gladness of His heart. His bride is prepared. The fullness of time has come. End RT

Song of Solomon 3:11 Go out, daughters of Zion, and gaze upon King Solomon, with a wreath his mother placed on him on the day of his marriage - on the day of his heart's joy.
