Burden or gift?

Psalm 55:23(22) "Cast your burden on Adonai, and He will sustain you. He will never let the righteous be shaken." (TLV)

What a verse. This seems to be echoed in 1 Peter 5:7 "Cast all your worries on Him, for He cares for you." A translation of the Hebrew before "AND" could be, "Send (throw or cast away) onto the Lord your burdens."

The word for burden (Y'hav) is only used here in the entire Hebrew Scriptures. This definition is consistent with the Talmud. There is another meaning to the word though. It could mean "gift" or "portion". Both Philippians 1:29 and John 18:11 use a similar term in this way. In the latter verse, Yeshua calls the cup of bitter suffering a gift.

God informs us that His ways are higher than our ways (Isaiah 55:9). Then He tells us, 1 Peter 1:6 You rejoice in this greatly, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials.

Finally, 1 Thessalonians 5:18 "in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Messiah Yeshua." May you receive this blessing today in the name (under the authority of the power) of Yeshua HaMashiakh.
