The Family Altar is an older concept that refers to a time at the dinner table where the father would present a Bible passage discussion, read part of a spiritual book and lead in prayer. This oncecommon practice is fast disappearing, but we believe it should be re-established. It is really a very Jewish rooted idea, since in Jewish teacging, the table of fellowship aound food is sais to be an altar. We believe that it is very important for families to eat together most evenings. It is a time for sharing and catching up with each other. The meal begins with grace or a prayer of thanksgiving over the food. The blessing over the bread may be said along with a spontaneous prayer. We encourage you to let creativity in the Spirit be your guide. The important thing is to regularly engage in spiritual activity together in a way that is Jewishly rooted and world missions conscious. You can purchase the book here.
