Purim

In the ninth section of "Conveying a Heritage", we move on to the fest of Purim. Although not one of the major festivals, Purim has an important place each yar in the Jewish calendar, falling exactly four weeks before Passover.

The story of Purim is the biblical book of Esther. The word 'Pur' comes from the word for 'lot', fir lots were cast determining the intended day of destruction, which instead became a day of deliverance.

Perfoming a Purim play, reading the Megillah (scroll), eating hamentaschen or dressing up (yes, adults as well as children!) the day can be filled with wonderful ways to pass on heritage to the next generation.

You can purchase the book here.
