Israel and the Nations

In the fourth chapter, we move on to consider another mutual relationship, that of Israel and the nations.

After the Exodus, Israel's whole life was organised to bring blessing to the nations. The sacrificial system participated in the meaning of the death of Isaac and called forth the coming of the Messiah to die for the sins of the world.

The nations, ideally, are to see the quality of Israel's life is far superior to life elsewhere - it is obedience to God that should bring that blessing.

God has arranged things for mutual humility whereby both Jew and Gentile in the Messiah will honour and acknowledge the other with thanksgiving: But for you I never would have made it.

Next, "Blessing and Orders of Authority", chapter 5.
