Is The Messianic Movement Merely Pentecostalism in Jewish Garb?

This month's newsletter article is making something of a stir - I ask the question: is it fair to accuse Messianic Jewish congregations as being nothing more than pentecostal churches that meet on Saturday?

The Messianic Judaism expression is accused of being inauthentic - a Pentecostal Christianity with superficial Jewish garb. Ironically "Pentecost", (the Greek term for Shavuot/Feast of Weeks) refers to the inauguration of the Messianic Jewish community - 120 Jewish disciples receiving flames of Holy Spirit fire in Acts 2:1-4.

I track the Messianic movement back to its formation in the 1960s and '70s and discuss the balance - which looks different in Israel and the Diaspora - between liturgical expressions and more free worship styles, before looking briefly at the manifestation of spiritual gifts and the ways in which they are handled in different streams of Messianic Judaism.
