Psalm 130 - God has called us to follow Him

Psalm 130:1-2 "Out of the depths I have cried to You, O Lord; Lord, hear my voice! Let Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications." NKJV

Verse one starts with the usual Shir MiMa'alot (song of ascent). The next Hebrew word is MiMa'a'ma'qim, meaning "from depths". The next word is from Koray meaning "called or cried out". T'cha means to You, capitalized because the next word is the four letter, Yud-Hay-Vav-Hay name for God.

The first word of verse 2 is Adonai (spelled exactly as it is sounded). This name (which we commonly substitute for the ineffable name of God) is in the plural, like the name Elohim, which is also a plural form.

We address verse 2, like verse 1, to the Lord. This verse is offering the Lord another sandwich. On the top and bottom is "my voice". The middle of the sandwich is our petition to the Lord to hear with His ears. What we ask God to do with His ears is to be attentive.

We know it is impossible for God to hear without being moved to action. In fact, we see here an example of an eternal truth. The eternal truth is that God holds Himself to the same standard to which He calls us. Check it out. God calls us to love Him, He loves us. God calls us to honor Him, He honors us. God calls us to humble ourselves, He humbled Himself (through Messiah's sacrifice). God calls us to hear Him, He hears us.
