Word

word (Hebrew 'davar') - Also translated 'matter', this is an important concept in Scripture. HaShem created the world by His word - He 'spoke' and creation came into being. The prophets in the Hebrew Scriptures heard "the word of Adonai", or "the word came to" them. Yeshua, of course, is described as the Word - and Colossians 1:17 tells us that "He existed before all things, and He holds everything together", while Hebrews 1:3 adds that "He upholds all that exists by His powerful word".

Yeshua is still speaking today and holding the whole world together by His word. Do you hear Him speaking to you? We need to make space for G-d's word to come into our lives and shape the way we think, our decisions, our relationships. It is only when we speak G-d's words, by the power of His Ruach that we bring His life and grace into the world, our families and workplaces. Yeshua told the disciples, "By your own words you will be acquitted, and by your own words you will be condemned" (Matthew 12:37).

Given that we speak thousands of words each day, we need to be careful that we speak in truth and grace. Where do you stand?
