Life through them

"You are to observe my laws and rulings; if a person does them, he will have life through them; I am ADONAI." (Leviticus 18:5, CJB)

What a promise - if we follow G-d's ways, then we will have life through them! The verse ends with "I am Adonai": an assurance that this is serious, because He is the L-rd.

Maybe this can seem a little daunting, when you think of all the laws and regulations that there are; after all, we are reading through Leviticus at the moment and there a lot of instructions in there. This isn't an advert online or on television, where you try to follow it up and find there's a catch and it doesn't really mean what it says.

So how are we to understand this? The key is in Matthew, when Yeshua is asked what the most important command is and He says that all the Torah and Prophets are dependent on this. If we focus on this then everything else will follow and we will have life.

"He told him, 'You are to love ADONAI your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. This is the greatest and most important mitzvah. And a second is similar to it, You are to love your neighbor as yourself.'" (Matthew 22:37-39, CJB)
