Do we have enough?

I still vividly remember a cartoon I saw many years ago in the Jewish Chronicle. Featuring two ladies of, shall we say, a certain age, the cartoon pictured the two women looking at a trestle-table piled high with food and bending in the middle under the weight. Carrying the title "Jewish Food Crisis", the cartoon had one woman saying to the other, "But do we have enough?"

Paul makes an interesting remark to Timothy:

1 Timothy 6:7-8 For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either. And if we have food and covering, with these we shall be content.

We have just been through the Autumn feasts, times when perhaps we all eat a bit too much and find ourselves needing to let our belts slip out by a notch. One mother at Baruch HaShem congregation in Dallas, TX, when we were there for Sukkot one year, told us that her van badly needed a clean as it was starting to smell - wall to wall fries - from all the snacks and meals grabbed by her family on the way to and from services!

Recognising when enough is enough is something that the human nature seems to struggle with; we always want just a bit more. But Paul's perspective is important. If we have food and clothing, we need to be content, trusting HaShem that His game-plan and His provision will continue.

May you have enough for today and know the riches of HaShem's provision in Messiah Yeshua in the days ahead!
