Matthew 7:12 Love One Another

Matthew 7:12 So in all things, do to others what you would want them to do to you - for this is the Torah and the Prophets.

Was this part of Yeshua's big sermon "something new?" It seems like it might be ... John 13:34 I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, so also you must love one another. The new part isn't to love one another. That's the old part. It's as old as the Torah. Just as Yeshua said, "this is the Torah and the Prophets."

Leviticus 19:18 You are not to take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am Adonai.

But there is a new commandment. "Just as I have loved you." This is new. Yeshua taught us the greatest love ... John 15:13 No one has greater love than this: that he lay down his life for his friends. Even better, Yeshua defines what he means by "friends" in the next verse. John 15:14 You are My friends if you do what I command you.

And, what about the prophets? Zechariah 7:9 Thus says Adonai-Tzva'ot: 'Administer true judgment and practice mercy and compassion each to his brother.'

World history is, for the most part, a story of cruelty. Yeshua has to come to turn that history upside down. He taught us the fulness of love. We are His ambassadors. We must represent His character accurately in all things.

1 Peter 4:8 Above all, keep your love for one another constant, for "love covers a multitude of sins."

Last word for today ... Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable - if there is any virtue and if there is anything worthy of praise - dwell on these things.
