John 16:1 I have spoken these things to you so that you may be kept from stumbling.

Let's pray ... Oh Lord, open the ears of our hearts. We want to hear your words in such a profound way, that they have a life changing effect. May that transformation benefit us now and for all eternity in Your kingdom. In Yeshua's name. Amen.

Why does Yeshua specifically say, "That you may be kept from stumbling?" His love for us is His all encompassing motivation. His desire is that we would walk with Him. In Hebrew, "walk" is <>holech. It is euphemistic for how we practice His instructions. How we obey His commandments is called "Halacha" from the same shoresh.

Furthermore; the Hebrew for "upright" or "straight" is Yashir, Yashar or Yosher. This word is also translated as "righteous" in many places. God wants us to walk uprightly and not stumble. The Lord has spoken wisdom to us so that we will not self destruct nor be led astray by the deception of the adversary.

Psalm 91:11-12 For He will give His angels charge over you, to guard you in all your ways. Upon their hands they will lift you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.

Today, we began John chapter 16. Yeshua is leading up to His John 17 prayer for unity. But before He does that, He is offering us a path to prevent self destructive behavior. Take His words to heart.

Judah 1:20-22a But you, loved ones, continue building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Ruach ha-Kodesh. Keep yourselves in the love of God, eagerly waiting for the mercy of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah that leads to eternal life. And have mercy on those who are wavering.

If we say we love God, we must obey His commandments. This is consistent with our love for Yeshua Who is God), and designed by God to keep us from stumbling. Psalm 119:165-166 Great peace have they who love Your Torah, and nothing causes them to stumble. I hope for Your salvation (Yeshua), Adonai, and do Your mitzvot. Hope for Yeshua Who gives great peace is consistent with our walk with God.
