Spiritual Formation through Spiritual Disciplines – part 1 Richard Cleary

Once we are saved by grace through faith (Titus 3:5; Ephesians 2:8; 1 Peter 1:3), how do we cooperate by faith with God’s power in the journey of growing up into our salvation (Titus 2:11-14; Philippians 2:12-13; 1 Peter 1:9; 2:2) until that Day when our  salvation journey will be completed at the 2nd coming of our King? (Philippians 1:6; 1 Peter 1:5; Hebrews 9:28; Romans 8:23; Philippians 3:20-21). One answer is by adopting Spiritual Disciplines. But we won’t start there.

Sometimes we have major turning points in our formation journey that catalyze our growth, like what happened to me early in my marriage many years ago.

One Sunday morning, a close friend of mine brought an unexpected disruption to a habit in my speech. It was a morning that I will never forget. Sarah and I had previously lived in the inner city of Orlando. But we had since moved. A family we  were friends within the inner city came to visit us for the weekend in Ormond Beach, Florida, about an hour away from Orlando.
