Jewish Evangelism – Isaiah 53 – Part 3 Rabbi Michael Weiner

Isaiah 53:6 We all like sheep have gone astray. Each of us turned to his own way. So Adonai has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

Messianic Jewish evangelist, Sid Roth wrote an autobiography titled, “Something For Nothing.” That title is what this verse from Isaiah is all about. In the physical world, any time someone gets something for nothing, someone else is getting nothing for something. This is not true of the kingdom of God. In the kingdom of God, which is spiritual, God is the creator, and we are all beneficiaries of His something for nothing plan.

Have you ever heard, “If it’s too good to be true, it usually is?” When it comes to the application of grace in God’s plan for salvation, it is too good to be true, but it is true none-the-less. Yeshua willingly submitted (gave) His life for the salvation of the world. That is also what this verse is all about.

Rabbi Trail: My goodness!!! As I walk through the mall or Walmart, or any place in public these days, I have to ask, “Is anyone looking in the mirror? What are they seeing? Piercings everywhere, tats tats everywhere tats, and hair of every strange cut and color, and I’m not even mentioning the evident gender dysphoria. It’s official, on the spectrum, normal is way below normal. The answer? Our subject verse. We have to see we have gone astray and the Lord has given Himself to save us. End RT.

Isaiah 53:6b So Adonai has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. Yeshua is the reality of all things. Let’s consider how Yeshua fulfills three roles on Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement).

First, He is the “goat,” the one on Whom the lot fell, “for the Lord,” Who was slain. 2 Corinthians 5:21 He made the One who knew no sin to become a sin offering on our behalf, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.

Then, of course, He is the reality of the scapegoat. Philippians 2:-11 For this reason God highly exalted Him and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Yeshua every knee should bow, in heaven and on the earth and under the earth, and every tongue profess that Yeshua the Messiah is Lord – to the glory of God the Father.

And finally, He is also our high priest, who performs the rituals. Hebrews 4:14 Therefore, since we have a great Kohen Gadol who has passed through the heavens, Yeshua Ben-Elohim, let us hold firmly to our confessed allegiance.

Please pray, both for the saved (that they/we will persevere) and for the lost (that they/we will receive the gift of God. Salvation costs nothing and at the same time costs everything. Yeshua chose to read this in the synagogue of His hometown, Nazareth … Isaiah 61:1-3 The Ruach Adonai Elohim is on me, because Adonai has anointed me to proclaim Good News to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound, to proclaim the year of Adonai’s favor and the day of our God’s vengeance, to comfort all who mourn to console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness, that they might be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of Adonai, that He may be glorified.

Luke wrote about this special reading … Luke 4:20-21 He closed the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. All eyes in the synagogue were focused on Him. Then He began to tell them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your ears.” Oh Lord, open the ears and hearts of Your people, Israel, to hear the words You spoke long ago as if they were spoken fresh today.
