The Upper Room Discourse 85

The Upper Room Discourse 85 Rabbi Michael Weiner

John 17:21 that they all may be one. Just as You, Father, are in Me and I am in You, so also may they be one in Us, so the world may believe that You sent Me.

And the purpose of all this “togetherness?” John 17:21c … so also may they be one in Us. God wants to include us (you and me – who follow Him) in His “oneness.” And let’s not forget that His oneness is His glory. Isaiah 42:8a I am Adonai – that is My Name! My glory I will not give to another.

This brings us to the cross, and the shed blood of Yeshua. When we see Yeshua’s once-for-all-time sacrifice, we must see it in the light of the lamb that was slain on the first Passover in Egypt. That blood appeared on the doorposts in same four places as Yeshua’s blood (pierced hands and feet [3 nails], plus the crown of thorns) on the Cross.

When the angel of death saw it, he passed over the houses of the Hebrews and their first born were saved. When God sees us (those who have believed on the Son), He sees us covered by Yeshua’s blood. He knows His own. 1 Corinthians 8:3 But if anyone loves God, he is known by Him. For those who are covered by His blood there will be no second (spiritual) death.

Revelation 20:6 How fortunate and holy is the one who has a share in the first resurrection! Over such the second death has no authority, but they shall be kohanim of God and the Messiah, and they shall reign with Him for a thousand years.

Yeshua has prayed that we would be “Yachad” meaning “together with Him.” To be “one” with Him doesn’t mean that we become God, it means we are together with Him. God created the world (and put man in it) for this purpose – so He could love us, and so we could love Him. That love requires the intimacy of togetherness.

Yeshua already said this in the Upper Room Discourse … John 14:3 If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and take you to Myself, so that where I am you may also be. He wants us with Him. Will you say “yes” in response? Yeshua and all the heavenly host will celebrate when you do. Zephaniah 3:17 Adonai your God is in your midst – a mighty Savior! He will delight over you with joy. He will quiet you with His love. He will dance for joy over you with singing. Shomair (tend and keep, defend, watch over) a “yes” in your heart. The King of kings wants you with Him.
